Grimey’s haul mostly thanks to a friendly gift certificate from Trevor Solomon, a true dude indeed.

The Vogue 7”
Made in Mexico Records version 1
2000
Found this at TD’s CDs & LPs in Bloomington last week. In my quest to re-gather all the original Made in Mexico vinyl releases, I move one step forward!
This single landed the band on the cover of the Rocket and the Seattle Weekly — something that seemed super-odd based on a 7” alone & stunk heavily of hype. In retrospect, maybe these three songs showed the most promise of the Northwest’s brat-punk 2K wave. Beyond these tunes, the sound tended to leave me cold (including the band’s LP which followed this single). Vogue members were young as hell, and previously or eventually found their way to The Blood Brothers, Chromatics, Shoplifting, Fleet Foxes, etc etc etc.
A few notable things:
- The title of the song on the b-side is “Cardiac Arrest in 4/4 Time”, right?
- Casey Wescott (credited here as “KC”) pushed Jesse LeDoux’s art direction to the limit with his request to build the color & texture of the sun ray’s on the cover from a scan of penis skin. LeDoux passed.
- The mailing address for Made in Mexico is on Boren Ave in Seattle, and if I recall correctly it was a Mailboxes Etc type place directly next to the apartment of The Sexi Mexi, mister James Morelos, owner & operator of Made in Mexico. This physical space, this tiny piece of a block in Seattle, has been haunting me lately, totally lodged in my head.
